Bio

Beth C Whitney, M.Ed is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor and Distance Credentialed Counselor. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of the Americas in Mexico City, received her graduate degree in Counseling from Boston University and has continued with post-graduate studies at Old Dominion University. Mrs. Whitney lived many years in Mexico and Central America and is fluent in Spanish.

She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her work with families, couples and individuals, having served as an officer in the United States Army and worked as a high school teacher prior to entering the counseling field in 1982. Her compassionate approach to therapy is based on her belief in the innate strength and wisdom of each person and her years of training and experience in helping persons to resolve their life issues.

Mrs. Whitney is trained in EMDR, a clinical protocol for helping persons effectively alleviate distress associated with trauma. She advocates and teaches the use of mindfulness skills to bring balance and calm to one’s life. She has extensive training and is certified in substance abuse treatment. She is certified to provide Distance Counseling via Therapeutic Email, Telephone Sessions, and Video-Chat.

Mrs. Whitney has lectured and presented at the International Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services, Virginia Counselors Association, and Chesapeake Community Service Board. She lectured on topics such as Stress Management, Time Management, Team Building, How to work with Difficult People, How to talk with your Kids, Coping with Divorce, Blended Families and provided training seminars on 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
